Near the Main Lodge, at the center of the resort, many gather to play, to socialize with family and other guests, and discover the joy of non-video activities that all generations can join in together. There is the playground, shuffleboard, horseshoes, badminton, bocce ball and croquet.
The Playground, known as Toto's Tree house, is an adventure with its top deck up in the treetops with a picnic table and benches, as well as a slide that lands in noisy little pebbles, a tire swing, monkey bars, and a clatter bridge. There is even a bench swing for when the adults get tired. We challenge you to find out who Toto was (someone besides Dorothy's dog). The Shuffleboard court and horseshoe pits are just down the hill. There are 2 shuffle board courts side by side, great for a quiet game for a couple with an evening cocktail or team competition from the family reunion. We suggest being on grandpa's team!! The painted triangles also make a handy hop scotch game.
The horseshoe pits are next to the shuffleboard. We paint the metal stakes and backboard fresh every year, under the supervision of our long-term houseman Jerry, who plays competitively and is useful for when there is a question on the rules (if you choose to play by them!). We have the classic heavy metal shoes for the adults, which ring as they hit the stake, and plastic ones for the kids.
Badminton is a favorite game with all ages. There is a big court, with a high net and funny lightweight racquets that you have to hit with a lot of gusto (but don't hurt if you hit someone else by mistake). Instead of a ball, you play with a silly thing with fake feathers, called a birdie. You can try to get it stuck in a tree, or up on the roof as well as over the net.
