The Glasrud Family enjoying Bocce Ball

The Bocce Ball and Croquet court is new to Teal Lake. We held our first bocce game in August of 2007, with much whooping and laughter. The court sits just above the pool, and was carefully designed to be regulation size for those that play it seriously. It has good quality golf grass and even its own irrigation system. Both games involve balls that are slightly larger than an adult fist but Bocce has you throw the ball, whereas croquet involves a mallet.  All equipment is available for rental down in the Lodge office, as well as a short version of the rules. Official rules are also available if you choose to follow them.

Toto TreehouseNear the Main Lodge, at the center of the resort, many gather to play, to socialize with family and other guests, and discover the joy of non-video activities that all generations can join in together. There is the playground, shuffleboard, horseshoes, badminton, bocce ball and croquet.

The Playground, known as Toto's Tree house, is an adventure with its top deck up in the treetops with a picnic table and benches, as well as a slide that lands in noisy little pebbles, a tire swing, monkey bars, and a clatter bridge. There is even a bench swing for when the adults get tired. We challenge you to find out who Toto was (someone besides Dorothy's dog). The Shuffleboard court and horseshoe pits are just down the hill.

The Mickelson Family enjoying Shuffleboard after dinnerThere are 2 shuffle board courts side by side, great for a quiet game for a couple with an evening cocktail or team competition from the family reunion. We suggest being on grandpa's team!!  The painted triangles also make a handy hop scotch game.

The horseshoe pits are next to the shuffleboard. We paint the metal stakes and backboard fresh every year, under the supervision of our long-term houseman Jerry, who plays competitively and is useful for when there is a question on the rules (if you choose to play by them!).  We have the classic heavy metal shoes for the adults, which ring as they hit the stake, and plastic ones for the kids.

Badmitton CourtBadminton is a favorite game with all ages. There is a big court, with a high net and funny lightweight racquets that you have to hit with a lot of gusto (but don't hurt if you hit someone else by mistake). Instead of a ball, you play with a silly thing with fake feathers, called a birdie. You can try to get it stuck in a tree, or up on the roof as well as over the net.

Swimming IS Vacation

If you want to swim, Ross' Teal Lake Lodge has two options for you, an outdoor heated swimming pool and the quiet waters of Teal Lake.

The heated outdoor Swimming Pool is located near the Main Lodge. The enclosed pool area is big enough (65' corner to corner) for sunbathing, while others splash in the shallow end (about 20' x 20') without getting too deep and disturbing bigger folk (deep end also about 20' x 20'). It is an older model swimming pool, the shallow end has steps into it and then goes immediately to 3 ft, and it then gradually deepens all the way to 9 feet deep. Works well for multiple ages at the same time. The pool temperature is kept near 80 degrees. During the summer it is not uncommon to hear a game of "Marco polo" come drifting down the hill, then see teenagers running from the pool to the lake. POOL opens and is heated for swimmers the first day of Summer rates (usually June 20th-ish). It stays at a warm 80 degrees till Labor Day when it goes to sleep till next summer.

Teal Lake is wonderful swimming. The water is a comfortable temperature (65 degrees) usually by mid June, gets warmer in the summer usually up to mid 70's, which lasts into September. You can choose to swim off our Main Dock or from off your cabin dock.

Bikes for all sizesOne can also find bikes of all sizes and wheel count, near the Main Lodge. The tricycles, wagons, and bikes technically live under the big pine tree, but tend to get scattered because they are for anyone and everyone to use, at no charge.

Kids enjoy riding the bikes around the circle drive by the Main Lodge while parents enjoy the second cup of coffee or before dinner. They are also popular modes of transport when the teenager gets sent back to the cabin for the camera. For those who want to go for a longer ride, the roads on property are about 2 miles and are packed gravel.

The lodge is comfortable and historicOur Main Lodge is was built in 1928 and still stands today as an authentic piece of history. A few years ago, a child walk into the Main Lodge and exclaimed "mom, this is the REAL THING!" Built with logs from the Northcountry, that are lovingly washed with linseed oil every year, the warm red glow welcomes you to come sit, chat, and relax. In the cooler Spring or Autumn, come enjoy the roaring fire in the big stone fireplace. There are board games and puzzles for everyone to use, either there or back at the cabin.

Shoes off for Ping PongThe Harbor Club has a huge recreation room with pool tables, ping-pong, video games, jukebox, and lots of romping space.

The Harbor Club "rec room" has a little people size pool table as well as the big people's pool table. We have lovely old metal milking cans for the little ones to sit on so they can reach the video machines and pinball or just sit and kick! There is a sturdy ping-pong table (yes, sturdy because one day they put the dog on it, and so they had to replace the legs to withstand anything that kids can do while playing Chinese ping-pong). An old grand piano sits in the corner for practice if mum insists, or just to play for fun. A table to do a jigsaw puzzle, and a couch for everyone to just lounge is also provided as well as a rocking horse, and a wagon full of blocks. This is for all kids to play - big kids like Dad too. This is a big RAINY DAY ROOM to run and scream and jump safely without anybody objecting!

Lodge Bonfire after DinnerA Campfire is a wonderful end to a vacation day. You can have them at your cabin or down by the waterfront (look for fire rings). We also often have a BONFIRE most nights outside the Main Lodge, in our big metal fire ring. A great chance for guests to meet each other, kids to make new friends, and let us not forget "smores"!

If you would like to sweat away the worries of the real world, spend some time in our Sauna. Our cedar paneled sauna is a dry sauna and is located just off the work center/winter office. Towels provided. It is on a timer, so think ahead to warm it up. Since it is in a building where people sleep, we ask that you do not use it after 10 p.m.

Relax to the SunsetIt is important to RELAX while on vacation. Ross' Teal Lake Lodge has plenty of places to do this important activity. There are hammocks scattered throughout property and chairs outside cabins and on docks, great for reading a book or watching the sunset. Near the main lodge there are loungers and chairs, as well as a big picnic table. All ideal for an intimate chat or nap, or gathering of the family before dinner. A favorite spot of the Ross family is the outside chairs near the office, so if you are looking for a story or a chat, come join us there.
